Real Madrid have slashed the asking price of James Rodriguez, this could see the Toffees re-enter the chase.

Real Madrid want to get rid of some of their stars who are pocketing ridiculous amount of salaries but are not in Zinedine Zidane’s plans. Gareth Bale is the biggest name. James Rodriguez also is in the list but the only difference being, the Colombian is open to moving away from Madrid. Los Blancos have massively slashed their asking price which could see Everton re-enter the transfer race.

James Rodriguez and Real Madrid now look like two opposite ends of a spectrum. The Colombian is finding it extremely difficult to cut into the starting eleven. Forget starting eleven, he is not even making it to the match day squads these days. A separation looms and in a bid to avoid losing the 29 year old on a free transfer next year, Real have decided to slash their asking price.

According to Sport, Real Madrid are ready to sell James Rodriguez for £7.7 million.  Initially, the Los Blancos demanded £45 million which further clipped to £20 million and now the asking price has been brought down to a bare minimum of £7.7 million. This makes Rodriguez extremely affordable and Everton could reconsider their stance.

You can consider James as Carlo Ancelotti’s adopted son, the Colombian will always have a place in Ancelotti’s heart. The Italian boss was keen to bring the 29 year old to Goodison but the initial asking price of £45 million put him off. Recently, it was also claimed that James will move to Atletico Madrid but this was just a rumour.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

With Los Blancos desperate to trim their wage budget, a James Rodriguez sale is likely. It is quite shocking that Florentino Perez, a shrewd businessman will incur a loss of over £50 million on the player. Real paid £63 million for James’ services back in 2014 and let him go for a cut-price of £7.7 million is a big L.

This could see the Toffees spring back up in action. At £7.7 million, there’s isn’t a better quality attack-minded player available in the market. James Rodriguez may have seen his confidence drop but that doesn’t take away that he is not a quality player. A playmaker of his stature can solve the creativity issue in the midfield and can potentially allow Ancelotti to make a formation change. I don’t see the Italian going with a 4-4-2 next term.

Farhad Moshiri is working to deliver a marquee signing to the Italian and James Rodriguez could be the man. James’ addition will further help the Toffees to mount a serious challenge for European places.

Will the Toffees sign James Rodriguez?
