I know we keep going on about this one, but it seems as though Napoli midfielder Allan is determined to be re-united with Carlo Ancelotti and has now made it clear he wants to join Everton this summer.

The Liverpool Echo say two Italian papers are running the story claiming that Everton are going to win the race for the Brazil player because of the ‘Ancelotti factor’.

This was one of the things that Blues fans expected would be a positive outcome from bringing in the Italian coach, his ability to persuade top quality players to come to Goodison Park.

Well that’s apparently what is happening in the case of Allan, who has supposedly decided he would rather re-join Ancelotti in England than move to Spain and sign for Athletico Madrid.

The Spanish club are the only other serious suitors according to these reports. Diego Simeone is keen on Allan but despite the fact Athletico can offer European football, he is still more interested in moving to Everton.

So Allan has told those concerned that he wants to come and play in the Premier League. I suspect that the Blues are offering the player more money too, although given the current financial situation its not a given that Everton can actually do so.

Yet again, I don’t want to sound like I’m repeating myself, but once more it has to be said we have to take these stories with a pinch of salt!

Obviously getting Allan would be a considerable coup for the Toffees and would provide some very significant justification for spending so much money to secure Ancelotti’s services when he joined back in December.

As we’ve said before, the Brazilian is a fine player with a ton of experience and would hugely improve the Blues midfield and the team overall, both defensively and in an attacking sense.

He would I think, replace all the energy and spadework the team have lacked since the departure of Idissa Gueye and add real creativity to boot. Allan could be the Toffees version of Fernandinho.

The only stumbling block is that Napoli want almost £40 million and Everton are only offering around half that figure.

In this post-pandemic transfer market, £40 milllion seems an awful lot for a 29-year-old who may not be able to play at the top level of the game for more than another two or three years.

I would imagine Everton will probably go back with a slightly improved offer but I can’t see the Blues matching Napoli’s valuation, so we’ll see.

With this and further claims that the Toffees are closing in on Abdoulaye Doucoure and if both these deals were to be done, the Blues would have an excellent new centre of midfield.
