Ronald Koeman signed players like Gylfi Sigursson, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez which all have been horrible.

1. Ineffective spending

Ronald Koeman was chosen as the Everton manager in 2016 to succeed Roberto Martinez. The first season saw him spend £86 million in bringing some notable players like Yannick Bolasie, Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

We know how the career of Bolasie and Schneiderlin panned out. Gueye was arguably the most successful signing. Nonetheless, at this point Everton were flying high and achieved qualification to Europa League.

The summer of 2017 proved to be a disaster. This was the first point in the chain of disasters to follow under Koeman. After an impressive last season, Farhad Moshiri handed the biggest transfer budget to Ronald Koeman. The summer transfer window of 2017-18 showed how ineffective his transfer plans can be.

Everton bid farewell to Romelu Lukaku after a stupendous run scoring 26 goals in 39 games for the Toffees. Ronald Koeman never had a concrete plan to replace the Belgian beast. In order to compensate for the loss of a striker, he bought 4 Number 10’s in the form of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen, Nikola Vlasic and Wayne Rooney for a combined sum of £80 million. None of these players could repeat even a fraction of what Lukaku did.

A former Barcelona product Sandro Ramirez was bought for £5 million which Koeman described as a smart move, 3 seasons after his arrival, it is safe to say Ramirez has been a disappointment.

A total of £183 million were spent in that window to take the giant leap to Champions League but what ensued was unimaginable. Ronald Koeman was sacked after 9 games into the season, losing 5 of them and landing the Toffees into relegation madness.

The summer window of 2017 is evidence that he doesn’t have the best transfer plans for the club. Barcelona have already been criticized for their failures in recruitment policy and they can’t afford to blatantly spend on players that do not fit in their team.
