Thiago Silva may be slipping away from the hands of Everton as Chelsea enter the race and Fiorentina have offered lucrative salary to the Brazilian ace.
Everton were said to be early favourites to sign Thiago Silva after PSG announced that the Brazilian veteran will depart this summer along with Edinson Cavani, Thomas Meunier and Eric-Choupo-Moting. The 36 year old’s deal runs out this year and will be a free agent soon. There were early whispers of him returning to Brazil with Fluminense but Silva made his stance clear by saying he has unfinished business in Europe.
Carlo Ancelotti was thought to be excited to dream of a reunion with the Brazilian and asking Brands to sign Silva. The Italian also called Thiago Silva to seduce him to move to Merseyside. Since then, Everton have not made much progress as they concentrated on acquiring Gabriel Magalhaes.
The LOSC Lille defender is inclined towards joining Arsenal or Manchester United which brings Everton back to the drawing board. Nikola Maksimovic is being thoroughly dissected and the proposition of him arriving at Goodison Park is being considered.
In the midst of this, the Royal Blues have somewhat lost track on Thiago Silva as European giants Chelsea have taken note of his availability. As per the Telegraph, Chelsea is considering a free transfer for Thiago Silva to bolster their backline.
The Blues are moving quickly in the market which has been the theme for them all year long. They have been one of the most proactive teams in the market trying to reinforce every part of team. Thiago Silva is another possibility who despite his age has looked solid all season long for PSG.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are already in negotiations stage with the Brazilian and have offered a net salary of €4 million per season, as per Football Italia. La Viola president Rocco Commisso rates Silva highly and has offered a similar contract to what Franck Ribery earns at Fiorentina.
As Fiorentina and Chelsea gain upper hand on Thiago Silva, Everton find themselves lost in the race. To make the matters complex, a contract extension is also not ruled out. The 36 year old himself admitted that if he can continue to play for PSG, a decision will be made.
"Destiny is in our hands. The club turns 50 and it’s the last year of my deal. I gave everything I could. If I can continue to play with the club, we will discuss it and make the best decision. (via Metro)"
Thiago Silva is a veteran and will be an excellent addition to the Toffees side but the player is slipping away from their hands. If Marcel Brands really intends to bring the Brazilian to Goodison, he needs to act quickly.
