On and on it goes as according to the latest reports today the continuing saga of Napoli midfielder Allan’s transfer to Everton rumbles on.

We have been waiting what seems an age for this deal to be done and for the Brazilian to become an Everton player.

The long wait for confirmation that it’s sorted out, is almost painful to endure and as with recent deals they have fallen through, particularity Gabriel Magalhaes, it makes you begin to question whether it will actually happen.

The Liverpool Echo quote Inside Futbol claiming that negotiations are continuing but that the two clubs are still a long way from agreeing a fee for the player.

Apparently Napoli still want £40 million, which is a fee I seriously doubt Everton will contemplate  meeting so there is deadlock between the two clubs.

The player himself wants to come to Goodison Park and the Blues have offered £25 million plus add-ons, which seems more than reasonable for a 29-year-old in this market.

Again though, as with the Gabriel saga, if the Toffees have to put more money on the table to get their man and Ancelotti really wants him, then maybe the club should up their bid just to get this wretched thing done and move on.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The Blues have consistently underbid for players in this summer market and although I recognise it’s important to try and get good value for money, especially after some of the past transfer deals, in the end if Everton want these players they’re just going to have to find the money.

I have a horrible sense of deja-vu about this transfer window. It feels increasingly likely that we’re going to end up scrambling around for deals with a day or two left of the window and that’s not conducive to getting good value for money.

By that time the Premier League season will be well underway and we might already be struggling in the bottom half of the table by that time.

I really hope that the club can prove me wrong and get the Allan deal and others critical to improving the first-team over the line before we get to that point.
