Everton is planning a shock move for Manchester United outcast Chris Smalling after missing out on Gabriel Magalhaes.
Gabriel Magalhaes transfer saga is over and the Brazilian is headed to Arsenal. Everton are now back to the drawing board. Defensive reinforcements are needed and there are some targets being discussed. The file of Manchester United outcast Chris Smalling has been opened in the Everton offices now.
According to 90min, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has conveyed it to the club that he will make the final call into choosing the club of his choice and will not be forced by United to make a move. There are admirers of him in Italy, England and France.
Smalling spent last season on loan at AS Roma where he was a mainstay in the defence under Paulo Fonseca. His future at Old Trafford is almost dead with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof being the first choice central defenders. Giallorossi wants to take the Englishman permanently but is failing to generate funds for the transfer that can match United’s evaluation.
The Red Devils are demanding a fee in the region of £20 million which the Romans are unwilling to pay. In such a situation, Manchester United are ready to offload him to a Premier League club.

Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Fulham are the Top Flight clubs showing considerable interest. Inter Milan and Atalanta also continue to track the defender’s situation.
Everton are ready to pay the asking price and acquire the services of the 30 year old permanently. So, is it worth signing Chris Smalling? No. I would be against the signing of Chris Smalling. He may have had a fantastic campaign with AS Roma last term but his struggles at United were evident.
Perhaps, his style is more suited to Serie A than the Premier League. Managers came and went at Old Trafford but none of them were left impressed by Smalling.
On top of that, paying £20 million is not acceptable. This is a very inflated asking price that shouldn’t be entertained by Marcel Brands. It would be worth investing £10 million on Jonny Evans than spending £20 million on Chris Smalling.
There are better and more adept options in the market and it will be worth investing in them rather than buying Chris Smalling.
