Everton target dropped by Rangers
A striker allegedly targeted by Everton, Rangers Alfredo Morelos, has been dropped by the Glasgow giants. Should the Blues now bid for him?
Supposedly Everton were monitoring the Rangers man as a possible option if they decided to strengthen their attacking option, possibly if the Blues sold Moise Kean.
The Rangers man is one of several strikers in Scotland that the Toffees are being tenuously linked with in recent days.
Morelos has been a key player for ex-Liverpool player Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team over the past few seasons, scoring plenty of goals in the Scottish Premiership. He has also had plenty of well-publicised incidents of ill-discipline during his time in Scotland.
Now though he appears to have fallen out of favour at the Glasgow club and has been dropped from recent Premiership games.
Apparently Lille made a recent bid for the Colombian forward of around £16 million, which Rangers didn’t feel was enough to agree to sell him to the French club. But perhaps he has had his head turned by their interest.
Of course, as usual, these rumours are probably just paper talk or prompted by player agents to try and boost their clients negotiating power with their clubs.
As we know, the focus of Everton’s transfer policy this summer is to strengthen the woefully under-performing midfield.

There are though also questions about whether the Blues have enough firepower and while I don’t think Everton should be focusing on forward, if a player who can improve this area of the team is available for a very reasonable fee then perhaps the Toffees should be looking at them.
Morelos himself is a decent striker with a good goal-scoring record in Scotland, although those goals have dried up a bit recently.
Also the Scottish league isn’t as strong as England’s Premier League so there are questions about whether that means he would be able to reproduce that production south of the border.
His ill-discipline is also an obvious issue and would probably be a major concern for any possibly interested club.
I don’t think Morelos is the right player if the Blues are at all interested in bringing in another forward and I would be very surprised if he did end up at Goodison Park.
