Everton is said to be just one step away from signing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

Everton’s transfer activity has catapulted in the last couple of days with massive progress in Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez operations. The fans were well aware of Allan and Doucoure deals happening but James Rodriguez operation has come out of the blue.

Real Madrid wanted to get rid of the Colombian from a long time and with just one year left on his current deal, Los Blancos were desperate to sell him to prevent a free transfer next summer. The Telegraph confirmed that Everton have initiated the talks to take James permanently and the outcome looks positive.

Carlo Ancelotti signed the Colombian when he was the Real Madrid manager. In his first season at Bernabeu, Rodriguez flourished under Ancelotti and the Italian was in awe of the playmaker. Now that Don Carlo is at Everton, he wants the 29 year old at Goodison as he seems to be the right choice that can add attacking creativity to the side.

We evaluate how James Rodriguez fits in the team and what shape and formation changes can Ancelotti make to accommodate James and get the maximum out of him. James Rodriguez is a traditional playmaker best suited to play behind the striker. However, he can play as a left winger or even as a right winger.
