Chelsea signing Thiago Silva will open the door for Everton to make a move for Fikayo Tomori or Kurt Zouma.

Everton would have been bummed to find that Thiago Silva will be joining Chelsea on a two year deal, as per ESPN. The Toffees chased the Brazilian for too long with Carlo Ancelotti making a personal phone call to Silva and letting him know about Everton’s intention. It wasn’t to work in the Royal Blues’ favour as Silva has made the decision to move to Stamford Bridge.

Fiorentina also courted Thiago Silva and offered a €4 million a year deal to the 36 year old but in the end, it was Frank Lampard’s side that will secure his services. Silva had yet another fantastic campaign with PSG reaching the Champions League final and winning every domestic trophy in France.

His positive displays throughout the season despite the age of 36 is a sign that he still has it in him to succeed in the physical and demanding Premier League. Identical to Everton, Chelsea have had problems in the backline last season and a player like Silva will bolster their backline.

Thiago Silva’s move to Chelsea presents an opportunity to Everton to fast track the deal for either Kurt Zouma or Fikayo Tomori. Daily Express reported a couple of weeks ago that the Toffees are keen to sign Kurt Zouma permanently this summer. The Frenchman spent the 2018-19 season on loan with the Merseysiders and had a fruitful loan spell.

Ancelotti is impressed with Kurt Zouma and wants to take him permanently with his future unclear at Chelsea. Despite playing 42 times under Lampard, Kurt Zouma is more often considered a rotational player at Chelsea. The Frenchman is entering his prime years and would want regular football and Everton are in a good position to offer that.

The physicality and robustness of Kurt Zouma will come clutch for the Royal Blues defence who has struggled with Yerry Mina and Michael Keane all season. Meanwhile, Everton have also made their interest known in taking Fikayo Tomori on loan.

The Sun reported that Chelsea are open to the idea of sending Tomori out on loan to get some playing time as the Stamford Bridge tenants prepare for the arrivals of Thiago Silva and Declan Rice. The Chelsea hierarchy will look to generate funds from loans and player departures for Declan Rice who comes with an £80 million price tag.

Thiago Silva to Chelsea will be a silver lining for Everton, making it easier for the Royal Blues to acquire Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma. The possibility of a dual arrival from Chelsea cannot be overruled.

Everton and Chelsea have a decent transfer relationship and signing both of the defenders, one temporarily and other permanently won’t be a big issue. Under the tutelage of Ancelotti, Fikayo Tomori will excel and Zouma may reach the peak of his potential.

I’d second to the thought of a dual Chelsea arrival and if these deals do go through, losing the race to sign Silva won’t be a big loss.
