Everton are being linked with a move for Manchester United third-choice ‘keeper Sergio Romero, it’s thought that Romero would be the perfect candidate to challenge Jordan Pickford for the starting role at Goodison Park.

A report by the Express claims that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is eyeing a move that would see the Argentine international Sergio Romero swap Manchester for Merseyside and become the man that challenge’s first-choice stopper Jordan Pickford to improve his own game.

They claim that Ancelotti wants Romero to join The Toffees and put pressure on current first choice ‘keeper Jordan Pickford, and the Italian sees him as the perfect candidate to do so.

Romero, who has been a member of the Manchester United set-up for five seasons, has been a regular back up to United first choice ‘keeper David De Gea and is known for being more than a good enough replacement as many previously tipped him to overtake the faulting De Gea during United’s campaign last season.

The 33-year-old is a very much a part of the international side of his game, and in fact, he remains Argentina‘s number one ahead of the likes of Arsenal’s Emiliano Martínez and Boca Juniors’ highly-rated Esteban Andrada.

A move to Goodison Park for Romero doesn’t seem that unrealistic either as the Manchester United man has now found himself sliding further down the pecking order at Old Trafford after Dean Henderson signed a fresh new six-year-deal to commit his long-term future to the club.

As for competition at Goodison, Sergio Romero would almost definitely have to once again play number two, as there is no chance that Ancelotti drops Pickford despite wanting to bring in a solid option to challenge him and help drive him.

Everton though, are not the only team who have reported interest in the 33-year-old. A separate report from the Daily Mirror claims that newly-promoted side Leeds United are also interested in a move for the ‘keeper ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Should Ancelotti make a move for Sergio Romero? He’s not exactly the worst option out there and he would definitely prove to be a solid back-up option to Pickford. Also, there’s the belief that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be willing to listen to offers so it might not be too difficult to fashion out a potential deal.

Is Sergio Romero capable of challenging Pickford?
