Everton were due to face Blackburn Rovers in a preseason fixture on Tuesday, however, the club have today announced that the game will no longer go ahead and has subsequently been called off.

In this match, Everton were set to face off against the Championship side at Ewood Park in what would have been the team’s second preseason game but after talks took place between the two clubs, they have mutually agreed to cancel the game.

This now means that Carlo Ancelotti’s team will only have a one more game to get themselves prepared for the start of the new Premier League season.

Ancelotti’s side will face Preston North End in a behind closed doors game at Goodison Park on Saturday 5th September in what will be their final game before the new season gets underway against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 13th September.

The reason as to why the game against Blackburn has been called off is yet to be released but given the wider situation, it could of course be Covid related.

So as of now, Everton’s only preparation for the 2020/21 season so far has come in a 3-3 draw away to League One side Blackpool.

The Toffees found themselves 3-0 down after just 11 minutes at Bloomfield Road before goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a brace from Gylfi Sigurdsson earned Carlo Ancelotti’s team a draw.

It was not a very good result for the Blues but with new arrivals imminent, hopefully it wasn’t a bad omen for the upcoming season.

It’s also thought that the club are not actively looking to pursue a replacement game in place of the Blackburn fixture.

This means Ancelotti’s men will have to make the most of their final preseason game against Preston and get all the work they can in on the training ground before and after this match to be ready for the new season.

As the 2019-20 season has only just finished it’s likely Everton’s players won’t need too much game time to ensure they are fit for the start of the new campaign on the 12th September.
