Everton can consider themselves in an advantageous position in Rafinha chase as Barcelona man prefers a move to Merseyside.
Rafinha is one of many Barcelona players on the axe list as Ronald Koeman looks to clear the squad by discarding incompetent and unwanted players. Rafinha cannot be deemed as incompetent but is surplus to requirements with the Blaugrana already stacked with a strong midfield. The Brazilian is also being sold to make room for new arrivals and Everton are hoping to take advantage of his availability.
As reported by Sport in July, Everton is one of many interested parties in Rafinha. Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves are also interested in the 27 year old midfielder. The Brazilian has already rejected a mega money move to China as he prefers to stay in Europe and compete for a top side.
Rafinha spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo making a total of 30 appearances for Celestes. The Galicians had the chance to make the signing permanent for €12 million but Rafinha was not in the favor of staying at Balaidos. The 27 year old’s release clause stands at €16 million which Everton are willing to pay.
According to the latest report from Sport, Rafinha prioritizes a move to the Premier League and Everton can be the destination as it gives him the chance to reunite with his brother Thiago who is touted to move to Liverpool. The brothers will be able to live in the same city and Rafinha is going to try his best to complete his transfer to Everton.
The Brazilian is a versatile candidate and at €16 million isn’t a bad deal. He may face a few initial hiccups while settling to the pace of the Premier League but he could soon show his top game. Former Barcelona man Andre Gomes can attest the above notion.
Allan deal is closed and a medical is expected to happen soon whereas James Rodriguez also happening in the background. With the inclusion of the duo, if Everton does manage to sign the Barcelona midfielder, it will be the icing on the cake.
It seems as though Ancelotti is planning a complete midfield revamp as even Abdoulaye Doucoure operation is being worked upon. In many ways, it seems justified as the mid has looked the most vulnerable part for the Royal Blues. Post the transfer window and recovery of Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Everton midfield can look an absolute powerhouse.
