Manchester United are close to signing Donny van de Beek. With his arrival, Everton targets Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira have been deemed as surplus to requirements.

The Toffees should not make a foolish decision to sign either of the Manchester United duo. The Red Devils fended off interest from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek for a sum of £40 million. This arrival of the Dutchman has seen Everton linked players Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira find their names on the transfer list.

According to Daily Mail, Manchester United is ready to sell Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira after the arrival of van de Beek. In order to make room for more recruits, the United duo needs to be sold. Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira haven’t done enough to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and their axe is now near.

Everton have been linked to Lingard in the past with 90min claiming in May that the 27 year old has attracted interest from the Toffees. Manchester United legend Paul Scholes also tipped Jesse Lingard to join Everton.

Meanwhile, 90min reported in mid-June that Andreas Pereira is being chased by Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle United. The Brazilian has become a fringe player and doesn’t see a bright future at Old Trafford. In fact, Goal reported that the 24 year old is open to leaving Manchester United in order to get playing time elsewhere.

Now that these two previously linked Everton players are available, will the Toffees make a move or consider them? No. Signing either of the Manchester United duo makes no sense. Perhaps, Everton has set their sights on signing the likes of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Allan and Rodriguez are almost done deals with the final few details are being finalized.

Even though Everton are still in the market for a right winger but Jesse Lingard shouldn’t be the player to target. Wilfried Zaha is miles better than the Englishman and is available for a cut price of £30 million. On the other hand, Lingard is no longer the player he was touted to be a few years ago. The 27 year old may turn to be another Alex Iwobi which then Royal Blues can’t afford at any costs.

The narrative of bringing big club flops needs to change or else the Royal Blues will continue to show mediocrity.  Carlo Ancelotti has spoken a lot on improving the squad quality and any such average signings won’t do the job if Everton really wants to mount a serious challenge for European Football.
