Everton: Club President regrets not selling midfielder a year ago, now forced to sell at half price
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis regrets not selling Allan a year ago when PSG came with an offer of €45 million. Everton have managed to sign him this summer transfer window for cut price of €25 million.
Everton can announce the signing of Allan any minute now with the player already in Liverpool and having undergone a medical. The deal itself had rumbled on for weeks but is finally reaching its conclusion.
Napoli had an asking price of €40 million which was finally brought down to €25 million upfront payment and €3 million in add-ons. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has spoken on the transfer during an interview with Kiss Kiss Napoli (via CalcioNapoli24).
The Napoli president spoke on a bunch of things and transfers and highlighted the transfers of Allan and the potential transfer of Kalidou Koulibaly. De Laurentiis admitted that he could have sold Allan last year for €45 million but will now have to let him go for almost half price of €25 million.
Last year, Napoli were bewildered when PSG came knocking on the door with an offer for Allan. Last season, the Brazilian was absolutely in killer form, he hardly threaded a wrong pass, made apt decisions, in short, he looked in the form of his life. French giants took notice and were enticed with the midfielder’s technical adeptness.

Napoli President revealed that Allan’s agent called him with the PSG’s proposal but De Laurentiis expected an offer directly from the Ligue 1 giants. In a conversation with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Les Parisiens executive offered €45 million for Allan but De Laurentiis was adamant on selling him at €60 million. The deal never materialized as PSG were never prepared to go above their valuation.
Fast forward one year, you can say that De Laurentiis’ stubbornness cost Napoli millions. Everton made the most of the opportunity and signed him for a cut price of €25 million. Despite the player being 29, €25 million looks like a bargain. Allan brings the much needed stability to the Everton midfield that they lacked throughout last season.
Allan is expected to straight away walk into the starting eleven as Ancelotti has been able to reconstruct a new midfield with the arrivals of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. The latter is yet to undergo a medical but the deal can be expected almost done after Watford and the Toffees agreed on a transfer fee.
