Fenerbahce signing Everton flop after Vedat Muriqi departure will be a win-win for everyone
Fenerbahce has been previously credited with an interest for Everton flop Cenk Tosun. With the departure of Vedat Muriqi to Lazio, the Turks can fancy Tosun.
Vedat Muriqi has agreed to join Lazio from Fenerbahce after an impressive season with Sari Lacivertliler. The talks had been on going for weeks and finally, the two clubs have reached an agreement for €17.5 million, as per Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. With Muriqi’s departure, Fenerbahce will have to line up a replacement and Cenk Tosun of Everton is a profile they’ll closely examine.
Everton are on a roll in the transfer market after an initial few weeks of dormancy. Allan has been signed and announced as the first arrival. James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure are soon expected to follow after the two had their medicals last week.
Now the focus shifts to offloading players who are no longer required at Goodison Park. Cenk Tosun is expected to face the axe and Turkish giants Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in him. According to an earlier report from Fotospor, Fenerbahce Sporting director Emre Belozoglu is interested in bringing Tosun back to Turkey.
The 29 year old has struggled in England ever since his move from Besiktas back in 2018. It is safe to say that he is one of many Everton flops during the Farhad Moshiri era.
A loan move to Crystal Palace didn’t work in Tosun’s favour either as he picked up an injury which sidelined him for the rest of 2019-20 season. The Turk has returned to Goodison Park but has been told that he has no future at Merseyside.
Carlo Ancelotti has personally conveyed it to Cenk Tosun that the striker doesn’t feature in his plans. Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas have all been linked to the 29 year old.
In fact, Emre Belzoglu also had a Zoom call with Marcel Brands to discuss a potential transfer. With the sale of Vedat Muriqi, it is a tailor-made situation for Cenk Tosun to return to Turkey and become a first choice striker at Fenerbahce.
If a deal does go through, I hardly doubt any party involved will be unhappy about it. Everton wants to offload the striker who currently earns €75,000 a week at Merseyside.
Fenerbahce are exploring striking options after the sale of Muriqi and Tousn is certainly a player they fancy. They know for the fact that despite his inadequacies in England, the 29 year old has proven to be a top striker in Super Lig with Besiktas.
As for Cenk Tosun, he will clearly have the Euro 2021 in mind and would like to solidify a place in the national team and also gain some much needed game time. The Turk will want to put an end to his misery in the Premier League and revive his career in his homeland. All in all, this is a win-win situation for all parties.
