Journalist Nicolo Schira claims that Everton have opened talks with Atletico Madrid right back Santiago Arias.

A few days ago Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor claimed that despite the triple signings Everton are further looking to strengthen the side and signing a right back is on Carlo Ancelotti’s agenda. O’Connor also stated that the Toffees had made an enquiry about Atletico Madrid right back Santiago Arias but no progress has been made since then.

Marcel Brands knows Arias well from his PSV days and is also highly rated by Professor Ancelotti. According to AS (via Sport Witness), Atletico Madrid will have to make player sales in order to renovate the squad. Los Rojiblancos are eying moves for Alexandre Lacazatte and one central midfielder. However, in order to sign any new players, the other Madrid side will have to sell players.

Santiago Arias is one of the players who will be sold to generate funds. Deigo Simeone prefers the right back duo of Kieran Trippier and Sime Vrsaljko, leaving Arias available for a transfer. Atletico Madrid rate Santiago Arias at £14 million.

Since the reports that surfaced almost three-four weeks ago, the links had gone silent. Now, the stories of Everton eyeing the Colombian have started to emerge again. Reputable journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Santiago Arias is expected to join Everton and the talks have been opened with Atletico Madrid.

If this is true, Everton may be close to completing the fourth signing of the summer. However, Carlo Ancelotti in today’s press conference claimed that he is happy with the full back options he has at his disposal. Apart from Seamus Coleman, Jonjoe Kenny is the other senior right back in the team.

"Nkounkou is really young, he has no experience at this level, but he’s shown good quality. He has a fantastic physical quality. Jonjoe is different, he knows the club, he’s a player I have a lot of confidence in. I’m happy with both of them. (via Liverpool Echo reporter Adam Jones)"

Ancelotti has reiterated that he has full faith in Jonjoe Kenny and if he does impress the Italian in the opening few games before October 5, the Toffees may not even try to sign another right back.

Everton have established a communication channel with Atletico Madrid for Santiago Arias and we will have to see whether the talks progress and eventually take shape into transfer negotiations.
