Right Back: Jonjoe Kenny

The right back position remains a problem area for the Toffees and we could see a player come in for that position before the transfer window closes, with a loan move for Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori reportedly on the cards.

As for Sunday, the Blues could go for Jonjoe Kenny at right back following his return from his successful loan spell at Schalke. Ancelotti spoke very highly of Kenny in the week and may well give him a chance to stake his claim as Seamus Coleman’s successor.

Centre Backs: Yerry Mina & Michael Keane

The pre-season injury to Mason Holgate comes as a big blow for Everton as they prepare for the opening game of the season. Holgate’s absence this weekend could be a particular worry as his quickness and agility would have been a major factor in combatting Tottenham Hotspur’s pacey front line.

Mina & Keane are the obvious pairing at centre back, with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Lewis Gibson still feeling some way off challenging for a starting spot. Micheal Keane, fresh off signing a new contract with the club, and Yerry Mina will need to hit the ground running if they hope to cement their first team spot and keep Holgate out of the side when he does return from injury.

Left Back: Lucas Digne

With Leighton Baines’ retirement and Niels Nkounkou considered one for the future, despite some impressive moments in pre-season, Lucas Digne remains Everton’s first choice at left back. The Frenchman will hope to continue his consistent level of performances that he has produced since joining the Blues in 2018.
