Hudson-Odoi could be option for Everton

Stories today claim that Chelsea are considering loaning out young English winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. So would he be a good option for Everton?

While Carlo Ancelotti has brought in three new high-profile midfield signings, I still think Everton lack enough pace and quality out wide.

Although the Blues have several existing options such as Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Yanick Bolasie, none of them have convinced, to put it mildly and so the club have been linked with additional moves for wide players during this transfer window.

While the main priority is probably finding a right-sided player to operate at right-back and/or on the right flank, if the Toffees can get a talented young winger or forward on loan it must surely be worth considering.

Reports in the media today suggest that Chelsea are willing to let Hudson-Odoi go out on loan as they seek to give the young player Premier League game-time.

With the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner plus the fact Chelsea also have Christian Pulisic on their books, it’s not likely the young Englishman will get much regular football at Stamford Bridge this season.

The report claims that one of the reasons why the London club are willing for him to go out on loan, are questions regarding his attitude and willingness to work hard.

That’s not really what you want to hear, especially about a young player who should be desperate to impress and force his way into the first-team.

However, it could be that there are other factors to consider and it’s possible he might well respond positively to a different manager and approach.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Carlo Ancelotti is renowned for his man-management skills and ability to reach players and get the most out of them, so perhaps he could do the same again?

Because there’s no doubt Hudson-Odoi has real talent. He was one of the latest in a batch of very promising young English attacking players who came through a few years back such as Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

They have all kicked on to a considerable extent, while Hudson-Odoi, although still only 19, has not yet made the progress that was expected of him. So a change of scenery might not be a bad idea for him to rediscover his appetite for the game.

The teenager generally operates wide on the left but can play on either flank or through the middle. He has pace and the ability to beat a man and contribute assists and goals from out wide.

Perhaps he would be an option to consider as Everton search for affordable alternatives out wide that could offer pace and additional attacking flair to a side that still needs more of it.
