Everton will be free to sign Diogo Dalot as Manchester United is closing in on Real Madrid full back Sergio Reguilon.
Everton have been linked to Manchester United outcast Diogo Dalot for a longtime. The right back conundrum at Everton has kept the news of Dalot afloat with many fans across Merseyside wanting Everton to upgrade from Jonjoe Kenny to the Portuguese. There, for sure is some interest from the Everton camp but so far no major developments have occurred. This could soon change as Manchester United is closing in on Sergio Reguilon.
Manchester United have been looking at options to bolster their full back options and have been linked to Alex Telles and Sergio Reguilon. The name of Reguilon is picking up the pace and the Red Devils have contacted Reguilon and Real Madrid regarding a possible transfer.
According to Marca (via Sport Witness), Manchester United have ramped up their effort to sign Sergio Reguilon and the negotiations are taking place at maximum intensity. Real Madrid wants a buy back clause but that narrative could change depending on the transfer fee. It is worth noting that the Real Madrid player who spent last season on loan at Sevilla and won the Europa League prefers another loan spell to the Andalucian side.
However, the report confirms that Manchester United is considered the best destination for the 23 year old left back. If Sergio Reguilon signs for United, the services of Digo Dalot will be no longer required.

Now, Dalot and Reguilon occupy the opposite full back positions but with the arrival of another full back, the Portuguese will become redundant. Having 5 full backs in a team is very rare and it is likely that Diogo Dalot will be the one facing the axe.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is untouchable and is one of the first names on the team sheet. Brandon Williams has the full trust of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Luke Shaw manages to keep a place in the team when he is fit. This leaves Dalot on the brink of a divorce with Manchester United.
Everton could capitalize on this situation and make an attempt to sign Diogo Dalot. Various reports confirm that Dalot wants to leave the Red Devils. With £65 million already spent and centre back becoming a priority in the transfer market due to mason Holgate’s injury, Everton could push for a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
Diogo Dalot hasn’t lived up to the early promise he showed when he switched from Liga NOS to the Premier League. However, the 21 year old still is a mine of talent and potential which hasn’t been completely unearthed yet. His lack of game time has obviously taken a toll on his overall abilities but he can soon find a rhythm once he is given a proper run of games.
The Sergio Reguilon transfer should ease Manchester United’s stance on letting the 21 year old leave. Even if Diogo Dalot arrives on loan, he’ll be a valuable addition to the Everton side improving the squad depth.
