Everton are eyeing a move for Torino centre back Gleison Bremer.

Signing a centre back has been a debate all summer. To start with Everton only have three senior centre backs in Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina. Holgate’s injury is now a spot of bother and Everton are desperately seeking options in the central defence. The Toffees admire Torino centre back Gleison Bremer and an official approach is expected in the coming days.

Mason Holgate was the gem of last season. He excelled, matured and arguably was the best player under Carlo Ancelotti. However, the start to this season has been awful for the Englishman with the player facing a lengthy spell on sidelines due to an injury.

Mason Holgate picked up a toe injury in the pre-season game against Preston North End and will miss the next 8-12 weeks on the treatment table, as per Liverpool Echo. This leaves Everton with only two senior centre backs: Yerry Mina and Michael Keane. The duo rarely made a mistake in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur but there will always be never ending questions regarding their fitness.

The pair of Mina and Keane have a record of falling prey to injuries and another loss in central defence is not affordable. Jarrad Branthaite showed a flash of brilliance last season during the Project Restart but the fact is that the 18 year old’s metamorphosis has just begun, he is not expected to challenge for a regular role anytime soon.

Believe it or not, Everton is in a vulnerable position when it comes to squad depth in the central defence. Failure to sign Thiago Silva and Gabriel Magalhaes has already hurt the Everton camp and in order to limit the damage, a new centre back needs to arrive soon at Goodison Park.

There are whispers of Fikayo Tomori coming on loan to Merseyside from Chelsea but the Toffees are exploring other options in the market as well. According to Football Insider, Everton is ready to make an approach for Torino centre back Gleison Bremer.

The report mentions that Carlo Ancelotti wants to strengthen the centre back position and is now a priority for him ahead of the right back and wing positions. Gleison Bremer is someone who has caught the eye of the Toffees hierarchy.

The Brazilian moved to Torino from Atletico Mineiro in 2018, however, he got his real breakthrough in the team this season, playing a total of 27 Serie A games. Gleison Bremer is said to be open to a Premier League move as he eyes a big leap in his career.

Torino signed him on a 5 year deal and has a contract till 2023. So, in order to sign him, the Toffees may have to pay a good amount of money to the Italians, however, the player’s desire to leave Torino and play in the Premier League will work in Royal Blues’ favour.

Gleison Bremer is a robust defender and at 6 feet 1 inch is strong in the air. He is known for his precise tackling and aggressive ball interceptions. If the deal picks up momentum in the upcoming days, Everton will have a pretty decent centre back in form of Gleison Bremer.
