West Ham United close in on £12 million man who once played for Everton
West Ham United is closing in on signing AS Monaco right back Djibril Sidibe, who spent the last season on loan at Everton.
This in particular is not Everton transfer news. However, it is worth mentioning that Djibril Sidibe who played for Everton last season on loan is now close to joining West Ham United. The AS Monaco right back had an impressive outing last season with the Toffees and due to his all-round displays, it was expected that he could continue his stay in the Premier League.
There were reports that Everton will exercise the option to buy but were put off by the £12 million price. The Toffees preferred to close the deal inside £8 million but no agreement was reached and he returned to AS Monaco.
Djibril Sidibe left England with many admirers and it was just a matter of time before any Premier League side would make a move for him. AS Monaco were open to let Sidibe leave and the Top Flight teams like Newcastle United, Wolves and West Ham United exhibited interest. According to 90min, West Ham United are the favourites to sign Djibril Sidibe.

The 28 year old played 25 Premier League games for the Royal Blues last season and even filled in wide right role when required. Carlo Ancelotti opted against the idea of making the move permanent. Now that there are rumours of a right back with Diogo Dalot and Santiago Arias to Everton, Sidibe for £12 million or another loan wouldn’t have been a bad option.
With a move for right back being mentioned again and again in the newspapers, have Everton missed out on taking Sidibe for a much cheaper price? Dalot or Arias are expected to cost more than £15 million while Sidibe would have cost only £12 million.
The only possible explanation for not taking the buy option was the Ancelotti wasn’t convinced by the Frenchman’s abilities. Age wasn’t a problem with the right back being 28 and in his prime. Perhaps, Ancelotti won’t even sign Dalot or Arias as he has stated on numerous occasions that he trusts Jonjoe Kenny for the deputy role or even challenge Seamus Coleman when required.
As for West Ham United, Djibril Sidibe will be an addition that will improve the quality on the right flank.
