Everton may consider themselves in a strong position to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey after Tottenham Hotspur signed Gareth Bale.

One of the biggest headlines of the transfer window was the return of Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur. The Welsh Prince who made a name for himself at Spurs has returned to North London. With his arrival, Tottenham Hotspur is likely to opt-out of the Leon Bailey race. This could leave Everton as favourites to sign the Bayer Leverkusen man.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton were interested in signing the Bayer Leverkusen winger. Leon Bailey is one of the most wanted wingers across Europe with a number of teams inquiring about the Jamaican.

The 23 year old endured an injury hit season but always impressed when he was fully fit. Despite the injuries, there are no questions regarding his capabilities and that is why the Toffees and Spurs want to take him.

However, Jose Mourinho signed Gareth Bale on loan and it is widely expected that they will make the move permanent next summer. With his arrival, the need for a winger in North London has subsided. Now, Leon Bailey is predominantly a left winger and Bale a right winger so they don’t exactly challenge each other’s spot. However, the Welshman’s arrival adds more depth to the wings.

Mourinho now has Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura, Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Gareth Bale and Erik Lamela as wide options. There’s no room left for another winger at Tottenham Hotspur. This leaves the other frontrunner, Everton, as the favourites to sign the Jamaican.

The Royal Blues has been linked to a number of wingers. Some definite interests and some vague rumours. Wilfried Zaha, Cengiz Under, Leon Bailey and the list goes on. However, if the Toffees do make an effort to sign a winger, they’ll relatively have less competition to sign Bailey.

The Jamaican’s agent has now acknowledged the interest from Everton and maintains the idea of Bailey open to a Premier League move.

"Leon Bailey whilst playing half the amount of games due to injuries, etcetera, has amassed the same number of points as the other two wingers and he deserves the opportunity to either be given the chance to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a real fight for the championship of the Bundesliga or the opportunity to move on.We appreciate Bayer Leverkusen and their platform as the club continued to provide for him to do what he does best. Each professional footballer’s goal is to move to the highest level and be the best he can be. Tottenham and Everton are two top clubs and deserve …our respect and due consideration. From what is being said by his agent, it seems as though they are eager on an offer from Everton. It is unlikely that Tottenham Hotspur will enter the transfer after signing Gareth Bale, this could leave the Toffees in a strong position to sign Leon Bailey.
