Marco Silva signing could he headed for an Everton exit after continuous squad omission
Everton substitute keeper Jonas Lossl could find himself heading for an Everton exit after being neglected for all the match days so far by Carlo Ancelotti.
Last season, Everton spent money left, right and centre. Andre Gomes, Alex Iwobi, Moise Kean, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin arrived at Goodison. Djibril Sidibe arrived on loan whereas Jonas Lossl arrived from Huddersfield Town on a free transfer. Many lauded then-boss Marco Silva that he had paid fine attention to all departments and also bolstered the goalkeeping department by signing Jonas Lossl, especially, on a free transfer.
Many thought Everton had low key smashed the transfer window only to regret their assertion a few months later. I am guilty of being one of them. Thankfully, that disastrous Marco Silva era seems to be well past as Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton are flying high, riding on confidence.
Carlo Ancelotti is doing some major squad surgery and is open to discarding a number of players who he thinks aren’t capable of uplifting Everton’s quality. Many players signed by previous managers Marco Silva, Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce will face the axe in this new look Everton who want to bridge the gap to Europe.
One of the failed Marco Silva signings, Jonas Lossl, now finds himself in a very peculiar position. Last season, he made zero appearances for Everton and was loaned to Huddersfield Town for the back end of the campaign. After his loan move to the Terriers in January, the Danish goalkeeper made 15 appearances in the Championship.

Once Jonas Lossl returned to Merseyside, it was expected that he will again take the deputy role and make a few sporadic appearances in cup ties. No one projected him to challenge Jordan Pickford for the starting role despite the Englishman’s future becoming uncertain. He would be the ideal substitute keeper who would make a handful of appearances throughout the season.
However, very shockingly, Jonas Lossl was omitted from the matchday squad against Tottenham Hotspur. 20 year old Joao Virginia was chosen as the sub keeper to Jordan Pickford. The Toffees walked with a 1-0 win and marched to Goodison where they would play the first game of the EFL Cup.
Playing Salford in the Carabao Cup was not a challenging task. Carlo Ancelotti made wholesale rotations to the side in order to keep players fresh for the third game in a week that would be against West Bromwich Albion. Naturally, Jordan Pickford was rested (even though he was named on the bench) and Jonas Lossl was expected to be the man in charge of keeping the Everton goal clean.
Surprisingly, Joao Virginia started and kept a clean sheet. The 31 year old Dane was also omitted from the Game week two squad against West Brom with Virginia once again getting the preference to be on the bench.
Three continuous omissions well prove that all is not well with Jonas Lossl. Everton does not count on the 31 year old and he will mostly be allowed to leave or loaned out again before the end of the transfer window. There were light whispers that he could return to Huddersfield but nothing concrete has been discovered yet.
Even though he arrived on a free transfer, the entire Jonas Lossl operation is another Marco Silva failure.
