Manchester United is hopeful of sealing a move for FC Porto left back Alex Telles. With Telles’ arrival, the career of Diogo Dalot in Manchester will be almost over and could allow Everton to take him away.
FC Porto full back Alex Telles is close to a transfer to Manchester United with multiple reports stating the Red Devils’ concrete interest in the Brazilian. The Guardian reported that Alex Telles is eager to move to Old Trafford and is optimistic that a deal will be finalized between the clubs by the end of this week. The arrival of Telles would almost guarantee that Everton target Diogo Dalot is no longer required at the club.
Manchester United isn’t having a very pleasant time on and off the pitch. The recent 3-1 loss at Old Trafford to Crystal Palace has raised quite a few questions. The fans have been criticizing the lack of transfer movement and the failure to complete the signing of Sergio Reguilon. Now, Alex Telles has been linked with a move and this time around, Ed Woodward is expected to complete the deal.
Diogo Dalot is out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Red Devils are desperate to get rid of the Portuguese. The 21 year old has simply failed to live up to the early promise at United which has seen Solskjaer putting him on the transfer list.
Everton was linked to the full back but no bid has arrived from the Merseyside yet. However, the transfer for Alex Telles would almost definitely see the out of favour Dalot move away. In fact, according to Daily Star, Manchester United also tried to include Digo Dalot in the deal for Telles in order to bring down the asking price.

FC Porto instantly rejected that proposal as the Liga NOS giants demand cash up front. The 27 year old is valued at £20 million and Porto won’t accept anything less than that. Coming back to Dalot, the entire manoeuvre of including Dalot in the deal verifies the fact that the 21 year old doesn’t have a future at Manchester United.
Even though the Portuguese isn’t direct competition to Telles, Manchester United want to generate more funds for Jadon Sancho and Dalot is on the axe list. Everton have been in the market for a full back and Atletico Madrid player Santiago Arias is attracting a lot of attention.
However, Diogo Dalot presents a better option. The Portuguese is younger, has some Premier League experience and showcases the versatility of playing as a full back on either side and even venturing in a right wide role when required. The price range is also similar to Arias with Dalot being available for £15 million.
Even in the worst case scenario, Dalot will have a better resale value simply because of his age compared to Santiago Arias. Manchester United is close to sealing a transfer for Alex Telles, this could almost guarantee that Everton target Diogo Dalot will be headed for an exit for sure.
