Everton target and Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero is closing in on a move to Valencia.
Jordan Pickford has invited criticism after his performances last season. Even though he has been decent so far this season, the doubts have remained over his future. Liverpool Echo reported that Carlo Ancelotti is not convinced with Jordan Pickford which has seen Toffees get linked to a number of players. Sergio Romero is one of them but it looks like Valencia is closing in on the Manchester United shot-stopper.
Jordan Pickford had a nightmare of a season last time conceding a total of 56 goals in the Premier League. Fans and Pundits lashed out at the Englishman for being complacent and demanded to sign a new keeper. Ancelotti remains unconvinced on Pickford’s long term future. As soon as this news came out, a number of keepers were linked with a move to Everton.
Salvatore Sirigu, Geronimo Rulli, Jasper Cillessen and Sergio Romero were some of the names. Manchester United shot-stopper was extensively linked to Goodison because of the return of Dean Henderson to Old Trafford, leaving Sergio Romero as a third choice keeper.
The 33 year old saw a massive reduction in playing time last season. With Henderson and De Gea fighting for the No.1 spot, Romero’s future at Old Trafford looks bleak. The best decision for him will be to leave Manchester United and join another side.

The Toffees and Leeds United were English teams credited with an interest for Sergio Romero. This all fitted perfectly for Everton who were searching for a net minder who could not only keep Pickford on the toes but also replace him if the Englishman’s slump continued.
However, it seems that Valencia is closing on Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero. According to Daily Mail, Valencia is ready to pay £6 million to the Red Devils for Romero with the Argentine open to a move after falling down the pecking order. Valencia is hoping to cash in on Jasper Cillessen, another Blues target, as they cannot afford the wages and economics of the Dutchman.
If Everton were really looking for a goalkeeper, Sergio Romero could have been the best possible available option. It will hurt the Toffees to some extent if Romero moves to Valencia. The 33 year old was experienced, cheap and didn’t have audacious wage demands. All in all, it could have been a very smart transfer.
But, this is Football and nothing is set in stone. A late transfer hijack can never be ruled out.
