Everton are now the favourites to sign Chelsea centre back Kurt Zouma as Leicester City will pull out of the race after their Wesley Fofana bid was accepted.
Everton are kicking up and down to sign a centre back to reinforce the defence. Ben Godfrey, Kurt Zouma and Jean-Clair Todibo have been linked recently. However, there’s more admiration towards Zouma simply for the fact that he has had a very successful loan spell at Goodison Park in 2018-19. Chelsea are open to selling him should a convincing bid arrive and so far Leicester City and the Toffees were in the running for the Frenchman.
However, Everton now have an edge and can be regarded as the favourites to sign Kurt Zouma as Leicester City have almost pulled out of the race. There’s no official confirmation about Foxes withdrawing their interest but Leicester City have succeeded in getting the deal done for Saint-Etienne centre back Wesley Fofana.
According to Leicester Mercury, Saint-Etienne have accepted Leicester’s £32 million bid for Wesley Fofana. The payment structure will be £32 million upfront with another £4.5 million based on certain add-ons. Wesley Fofana has been a long term Leicester target and the Foxes had already tabled three offers before the £32 million bid.

Multiple rejections from the Ligue 1 side had prompted the Foxes to evaluate other options such as Kurt Zouma of Chelsea. The Royal Blues are also in the race to sign Zouma as Ancelotti aims to reinforce central defence. Mason Holgate and Jarrad Beanthwaite are out injured which has added more burden on Yerry Mina and Michael Keane.
Daily Mail reported that Leicester City and Everton are interested in Kurt Zouma but it’s the Toffees who seem to be keener on the Frenchman. Everton now have no competition as Leicester City has acquired Wesley Fofana.
I personally feel that Leicester were never really interested in Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma and it was just a tactic to pressurize Saint-Etienne to react and agree on a transfer. The French side were playing hardball and were trying to get the maximum for their 19 year old starlet. In the end, a deal was finally agreed and Leicester have their man.
As for the Toffees, the path is clear to sign the Chelsea man but they will have to shell out £36 million for Kurt Zouma.
