Abdoulaye Doucoure made a larger than life impact in the middle of the park.

Midfielders:

Abdoulaye Doucoure: 8

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s heat map could have covered the entire Goodison today. The Frenchman was everywhere making tackles, winning the balls, driving the ball forward and screening the back four (a.k.a executing the Allan role).

He did make one error in the second half which almost resulted into a Brighton goal if it was not for Yerry Mina. The assist was the icing on the cake to cap off a satisfactory overall display.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is a very demanding personality and expects to give his absolute best to the team. The error in the second half will surely hurt him and will stride towards improvement and avoid making such minute mistakes.

Tom Davies: 8

Tom Davies really put in a brilliant shift today. First making some key tackles fulfilling the defensive duties and then covering at right back after Coleman’s injury. Davies has been a victim of criticism since last season due to his underwhelming performances but against Brighton and Hove Albion he was assuring and looked confident on the ball. If he is able to keep this momentum up, he will quickly win back the fans’ support.

Gylfi Sigurdsson: 7

Showed real intent today and seems to be executing the new role perfectly, contributing in the offensive as well as defensive half. One major improvement since the last season is his work ethic in the defensive part of the game and today he was top notch.

I was a bit worried to see Tom Davies and Sigurdsson in the midfield today but the impressive performances from the duo instrumental in the win.
