Brazilian on way out of Everton
As the hours count down to the closing of what has been a defining transfer window for Everton, it seems as though Brazilian Bernard may be leaving Goodison Park for pastures new.
I am a little surprised at this to be honest, as I’ve thought the diminutive attacker had made some useful contributions to the Everton cause so far this season.
In particular Bernard has been enjoying being able to play a key role in the Toffees excellent run in the Carabao Cup.
However, obviously if a club shows sufficient interest in taking him and the player is happy to go, then it’s another set of wages off the books.
Bernard is being linked with a move to Italy and Roma. The Serie A club have a little bit of a tradition of taking players from England to the eternal city recently, with Manchester United’s Chris Smalling playing there last season. Now they might be getting the Blues Brazilian too.
The former Shaktar Donetsk forward hasn’t had a great time at Everton recently and it doens’t look as though Carlo Ancelotti has him in his plans going forward.
He doesn’t fit into a 4-4-2 and much better suits the new more flexible and fluid 4-3-3, occasionally 4-5-1 system the Toffees are deploying.
So a move away for a season might do him some good and if there is an option to buy included that might then suit both parties.

At the same time it appears as though the Blues are now interested in a deal for Roma’s goalkeeper Robin Olsen, surplus to requirements at the Serie A side.
Everton have been linked all day with moves for another goalkeeper as stories emerged of talks with Manchester United over Sergio Romero and also Tottenham’s Paulo Gazzaniga.
Neither of those seem to be viable options though as both their clubs want a permanent deal and the Toffees are only looking for a loan.
Now, if Roma were to take Bernard then perhaps a move for Olsen going the other way, would be included in such a deal.
At the time of writing it doesn’t look as though the Blues are going to bring in another striker but there’s still time for something unexpected to happen. As time ticks on we can only wait and see.
