Everton have their own explosive trio of James Rodriguez, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin very similar to Barcelona’s Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

MSN: Messi, Suarez and Neymar was the most ridiculous thing that happened to football. This is no exaggeration. Luis Enrique’s Barcelona spearheaded by MSN practically tore the opposition apart and left them humiliated. Messi, Suarez and Neymar have been the greatest football trio to grace the sport, there’s no second thought to it. Other trios come close but MSN were from another galaxy.

Ever since the MSN broke the footballing world, teams and coaches have aspired to have an attacking trio like them but none have been as successful as the South American trident. Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Manchester City and all major attacking powerhouses of Europe have attempted to match the benchmark set by MSN but no major inroads have been made.

Everton are somewhat on a roll and even though it’s early days, the signs are optimistic. Much of Everton’s supremacy on the field is a result of the fluid attacking that has been on display. James Rodriguez has elevated the levels of players around him and this has enabled Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to fire at all cylinders. DCL is in another league right now, giving complexes to other strikers with his insane goalscoring record.

The new trio of James, Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin has similarities to the trident of Messi, Neymar Suarez. To be frank Lionel Messi is extraterrestrial and no mortal comes close matching his legacy. The entire point of drawing a comparison between James and Messi are the similar roles they executed in the respective trident.

Lionel Messi was the creative engine of the trident. Often dropping back in the midfield and carrying the ball forward. The Argentine often drifts inward and operates as a floating number 10 at times. Rodriguez at Everton has a similar profile.

In just over 300 minutes of Premier League football, the Colombian has shown signs of orchestrating a similar role. We regularly see him dropping deep and drift inwards and often pinpointing that long, cross the field pass which often finds the feet of Lucas Digne or Richarlison who are on the opposite flank.

While Messi was the artistic tank of Barcelona, James is the talismanic presence in the attack for Everton. The 29 year old has created 12 chances, 4 big chances, assisted 2 and even been on the goal scoring end, scoring 3 goals in 4 Premier League games.

Coming to Neymar of Barcelona and Richarlison of Everton. The Brazilian compatriots are the energy reservoirs in the attack. Neymar was seen running down the left flank, making defenders dance to his tunes and never afraid of pulling off an audacious move and score an absolute stunner. Richarlison portrays similar characteristics but offers a little more than Neymar.

Richy does a lot of defensive work too, often seen in the Everton half defending and tracking back the opponents. Richarlison does like to cut inside and run at defenders while even fancying a long range effort.

Luis Suarez is a proven goal poacher and banged in goals left right and centre along with Messi and Neymar. In the Everton trio setup, the Calvert-Lewin has the onus of carrying out that job. The lead goal scorer in Europe, 9 goals in 5 games, attests the kind of inspiring form he is in.

Suarez too posted some crazy numbers and was a very reliable option in the strike force due to his natural goalscoring instinct. DCL can be trusted with a similar role too especially after he has added new armoury to his play. He, not only, is a great link up player or runs down the channels but also has developed the instinctive edge and smashes goals ruthlessly from the box.

The emergence of this trio is in the infant stages and the dreams of matching the likes of MSN is like standing at the foot of the Mount Everest and dreaming of conquering the peak. But, it is safe to say that the trio of James Rodriguez, Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin is one of the most exciting tridents in Europe, a joy to watch.
