Everton have been linked yet again with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Everton added steel and reliability in the middle of the park by signing Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the transfer window. Long before Allan and Doucoure were Everton targets, the Toffees were linked to Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Rabiot moved to Juventus last season on a free transfer and failed to find his footing under Maurizio Sarri. This saw him get linked to a Juve exit with Everton being one of the suitors. Despite the attitude issues and lack of commitment shown, Ancelotti was keen to bring him to Goodison.

Soon, reports fizzled out as Juventus director Fabio Paratici poured cold water over Rabiot’s exit. It seemed as though the chapter was closed forever. The stories stopped and eventually, Everton signed Allan and Doucoure.

It appears that Rabiot and Everton are set to be included in a single sentence once again as Calciomercato reported that Everton continue to rate him highly. Rabiot has not been on the good books so far with the Frenchmen underwhelming for both club and country. The Old Lady expect a lot more from the 25 year old, who pockets a mammoth salary of £225,000 a week.

This is a very bizarre transfer link and makes no sense at all. Ancelotti has worked diligently to upgrade the midfield. What once looked the most vulnerable part of the team is now the strongest area. Allan and Doucoure have uplifted the quality of the midfield instantly.

Rabiot, no doubt, is a talented player but his profile is very similar to someone like Andre Gomes and bits of Doucoure. There’s no real need to further bolster the middle of the park. The Toffees have 3 proper first team options and decent backup candidates. Rabiot won’t add anything extra on the table and hence the report coming from Italy seems very unusual.

Even if we keep the theory of Everton not needing Rabiot aside and consider that the Frenchman could actually be a target, the financial side of the things won’t be easy to tackle. Firstly, Juventus won’t let him go for the price of dirt. Secondly, matching £225,000 a week in wages is not a viable option.

The entire deal could be a destructive mission and hence the links to Rabiot seem to be insensible at this point.
