Jonas Lossl is not keen to move away from Everton despite Robin Olsen signing.

According to Liverpool Echo, Jonas Lossl expects to stay at Everton despite the loan arrival of Robin Olsen from AS Roma on transfer deadline day. The domestic window is open till Friday which could have seen the Dane join a Championship side but that possibility has been quashed.

The shortcomings of Jordan Pickford have been evident more than ever, forcing Everton to go into the market on deadline day and sign Olsen on loan. The acquisition of the Swedish international is being seen as a move to challenge Pickford and keep the Englishman on his toes. Olsen is a great keeper in his own right but he too comes with the tag of being error prone and replacing Pickford between the sticks is a risky call.

Most likely, Olsen will deputize as a second choice keeper and push for a starting spot if Pickford’s form goes from bad to worse. In any scenario, Lossl is out of the entire equation. The 31 year old was signed on a free transfer last season but was shipped out on loan in the second half of the campaign to Huddersfield. Lossl is yet to make an appearance for Everton but has featured on the bench this season.

Young goalkeeper Joao Virginia signed a four year deal earlier in September, meaning he is definitely in Everton’s long term plans. Virginia also has a similar stance and doesn’t want to head out on loan.

Though Lossl refuses to move out on loan and instead fight for a place, things could change when we enter the January transfer window. One of these two will have to yield and move out for the betterment of everyone. Everton cannot have 4 goalkeepers on their squad books and Ancelotti won’t ever be able to please each of the four by giving them enough playing time.

In my opinion, Lossl must soften his stance and try to engineer a move rather than fighting a battle which he’s likely to lose. Olsen will be the second choice keeper and will always get the preference over Lossl and Virginia.
