Everton defender Callum Connolly has left on loan to join Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the season.

The domestic deadline day or popularly known as the deadline day 2.0 has been less frantic than the European transfer deadline day with Everton focusing on player exits rather than last minute signings. One could have anticipated that the Toffees won’t be going all out to sign someone on the domestic deadline day.

The Toffees had already added reinforcements in the areas they needed to and a striker signing was never seriously on the cards despite all the links and reports of Joshua King. The deadline day has focused on player exit with Yannick Bolasie getting linked to Middlesbrough, Millwall and Blackburn Rovers all having an interest in the Congolese.

News has now emerged that another Everton player has left Merseyside. Everton academy product Callum Connolly has left Everton on loan, joining Fleetwood Town for the rest of the season, as per Liverpool Echo. The 23 year old spent the second half of the 2019-20 season at Highbury stadium making 15 appearances in total.

Connolly spent 9 years in the Everton youth setup before being promoted to the U-21 team in 2015. Since 2016, Connolly has largely spent time out on loan, playing for Wigan, Bolton, Barnsley, Ipswich, Fleetwood and Lincoln City.

The defender is capable of playing in various positions in the backline, playing as a centre back and even a full back. The 23 year old’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021 with the Englishman expected to leave the Toffees next year as a free agent.

The likes of Beni Baningime, Matthew Pennington and Nathan Broadhead were other players the Royal Blues were trying to send out on loan.
