The midfield trio of Andre Gomes, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure were not up to the mark.

Midfield:

Allan – 7

Allan had a slow start to the game, finding it slightly difficult to adjust to the pace of the game and the Liverpool intensity which prompted him to lose the ball a couple of times. Allan had to also venture slightly forward than he would have intended to because of the ineffectiveness of Andre Gomes. The 29 year old found his feet and was much more relaxed in the second half.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6

Doucoure wasn’t involved much in the game. Though he showed some excellent burst of energies and made good runs at the Liverpool defence but he largely played the chasing game today. Early in the game, he was caught out in possession and also made a couple of slippy passes that failed to reach the desired player, so, overall not a performance the Frenchman would’ve been satisfied with.

Andre Gomes – 5

Andre Gomes looked off the pace completely. The game was occurring at a slightly slower from his end which is why he was never able to settle down and use his technical and positional brilliance to good use. His ideas were bright while going forward, often trying to release Richarlison or DCL but the execution and the attempt were poor.

On his day, Gomes could easily be one of the best midfielders and orchestrate the play in the final third but as evident from the game, it was not his day today.
