Ryan Bertrand could be a major outlet for Southampton crosses.

2. Ryan Bertrand

The Southampton and England left-back is probably doubly happy with Everton’s injury issues. Not out of malice, but because he won’t have to face Rodriguez’s trickery as well as Seamus Coleman’s rampaging runs down the wing.

With Jonjoe Kenny just returning from injury, that may put Ben Godfrey at right-back. True, Godfrey did well against Liverpool after coming on for Coleman. Playing for the entire match may be a different kettle of fish.

Bertrand likes to get forward and cross, swinging in 122 last season. He scored one goal and had one assist last season for the Saints.  Defensively, he won 62 percent of his tackles last season and had 118 recoveries, according to the official website of the Premier League.

At 31, he has lots of experience, playing in the Champions League with Chelsea as well as having 19 caps for England.

In his career, Bertrand has been something of a nomad. Bertrand signed for Gillingham in 2005, he moved on to Chelsea where he went on loan seven times. His final loan move was to Southampton, where he signed on a permanent basis in 2015 for around £5 million.

According to Hampshirelive, Hasenhuttl hopes Bertrand will extend his contract which has a year to run. He’s no Lucas Digne, but he could cause problems, especially with an inexperienced Everton right-side.
