Everton loanee Callum Connolly is delighted to join Fleetwood Town on loan.
Once Ben Godfrey and Robin Olsen arrived at Everton it was pretty much clear that the Toffees would not be welcoming more arrivals. The priority had now shifted to offloading as many fringe and unwanted players as possible. Sandro Ramirez and Theo Walcott left on European transfer deadline day.
The domestic window was open till 16th October, giving the Royal Blues another chance to trim down the squad and lighten the load on the wage budget. Mo Besic and Yannick Bolasie were touted to leave with the Congolese coming close to joining Middlesbrough on deadline day.
In the end, U-23 defender Callum Connolly was the sole player to make a domestic deadline day exit. The 23 year old sealed a loan move to Fleetwood Town, returning to the Highbury side. Connolly spent the second half of the 2019-20 season at Fleetwood making 15 appearances with them.
He played his first Fleetwood game of the season against Accrington which ended as a 1-0 loss. Speaking after the loss, Callum Connolly expressed delight on his return to Fleetwood but admitted that the team could have done better in the game.

"It’s great to be back, I was here last year and it’s great to be back in a Fleetwood Town kit, it was a tough one to take tonight and hopefully, it’s going to be a better season than last year and hopefully we can learn our lesson tonight where we can get going on push on.It’s a friendly squad, there’s a lot of scousers, it’s a great team where everyone is dead down to earth. The new lads that have come in are great and you can get along with everyone, you can see it on the pitch, and hopefully, when we keep on playing and training together it will one day click, and we can be a force. The Englishman, though currently on loan from Everton, is in the final year of his contract at Merseyside and it is highly anticipated that he’ll leave the Toffees next year after seeing out his contract.
The first fruitful loan spell at Fleetwood gave Connolly confidence to return to Highbury for the second time and it won’t come as a surprise if he makes a permanent move to Fleetwood next season, signing as a free agent.
Connolly finds himself comfortable with the League One side and is blossoming in the surroundings. He has settled well and has a good relationship with Joey Barton which could be a deciding factor in him signing with Fleetwood Town permanently.
