James Rodriguez will start despite the injury scare.

Forwards:

Right Wing: James Rodriguez

The Blues faithful will have been worried to learn of James Rodriguez’s injury when it was announced earlier in the week, with speculation that the Colombian could be sidelined for the Southampton game this weekend.

Thankfully, Carlo Ancelotti eased fears in his pre-match press conference and confirmed that James was “partially involved” in training on Friday and could make the squad this Sunday. Rodriguez will face a late fitness test before the match, but you will have to imagine that he will start if passed fit, particularly since the Blues will already be without Richarlison for this Sunday’s game.

Centre Forward: Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains a guaranteed starter in the centre forward role, particularly since there is no real competition for the Everton striker currently, with Moise Kean out on loan at PSG and the only other options at the club being Ellis Simms and Cenk Tosun, who himself is currently out injured.

Regardless of the lack of options, Calvert-Lewin’s performances so far this season have made him undroppable and the newly-capped England international will be looking to add to his already impressive goal tally against Southampton this Sunday.

Left Wing: Alex Iwobi

The most interesting area for Everton this weekend is in the left wing position with Richarlison definitely ruled out through suspension after his straight red card for his challenge on Thiago in last week’s Merseyside derby.

The likes of Bernard and Anthony Gordon will be hoping for a chance this Sunday, but we predict that Alex Iwobi will get the nod for the Southampton game. The former Arsenal man has looked sharp in his sporadic appearances this season and had a decent cameo towards the end of the Liverpool game last week.
