Here are the Everton player ratings for the game against Southampton.

Everton fell to their first league defeat of the 2020-21 season, falling to Southampton away. The Toffees came into the game with a depleted side without Seamus Coleman and Richarlison. Ancelotti’s side just didn’t turn up today at St. Mary’s. Today’s performance and what we have seen so far from Everton were two polar opposites with the Toffees lacking character.

The Saints have always been a tough side to negotiate and Hasenhuttl lined up his side perfectly to gain an advantage over Everton. Two first half goals from Che Adams and James Ward-Prowse were enough to dent Everton. Danny Ings, who generally is on target for the Saints against the Merseysiders, turned creator today, registering 2 assists.

James Rodriguez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina, everyone had a day to forget with none of the players having a major influence in the game. Here are the Everton player ratings:

Jordan Pickford – 6

Jordan Pickford had a turbulent week, facing a lot of criticism for his Van Dijk tackle while also gathering support from the Toffees army. He needed a strong game in order to back himself and keep his confidence high, which would have been shaken after the recent events.

It wasn’t the best performance but he did pull off some spectacular saves in both the halves, saving Romeu’s and Vestergaard’s effort. Pickford was not to blame for the goals and could have done very little to save either of the goals.
