James Ward-Prowse is the captain and key Southampton player.

Central defensive midfield: Allan

Everton new signing Allan has made a big impact on the team, screening the back four and putting those might challenges to win the ball back or break down the attack. His contribution to the team is as important as James Rodriguez.

Central midfield: James Ward-Prowse

Arguably, the most important part of the Southampton midfield. James Ward-Prowse has already made 232 league appearances for Southampton at 25. Despite being a defensive midfielder, he’s capable of controlling the tempo in the middle of the park. Ward-Prowse’s free kicks always pose danger of a goal. His work rate is well known and hence makes it to the combined XI ahead of the likes of Andre Gomes.

Central midfield: Stuart Armstrong

Stuart Armstrong, an attack minded player, who has done exceptionally well or Southampton in the last couple of seasons. With the selection of Allan and Ward-Prowse, a player like Armstrong balances the side with his attacking play. Doucoure misses out.
