Everton vs. Southampton combined XI: £15 million Saints man misses out, 42 goal Toffees man in
The duo of Calvert-Lewin and Rodriguez is firing on all cylinders.
Forwards:
Central attacking mid: James Rodriguez
The Colombian has revitalized the Everton attack and walks into any team without a doubt. Rodriguez picked up an injury against Liverpool and was initially ruled out for the Southampton clash by Carlo Ancelotti. However, in less than 24 hours, the Italian made a complete U-turn and insisted that the 29 year old could be available for the game after showing signs of improvement and even doing partial training.
Rodriguez has 7 goal contributions in 6 games this season and has shown exactly what Everton had been missing for years. Even though he plays on the right wing for Everton, he’ll be more comfortable in the CAM role in a two striker formation.
Striker: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
There were no surprises about this pick. Just like Rodriguez, the current form of Calvert-Lewin allows him to walk into any team of Europe. He’s had a dream start to the 2020-21 campaign and will hope to continue the rich run of form against Southampton. The 23 year old is joint top scorer with Heung-Min Son at 7 goals.
Striker: Danny Ings
Ings rounds up the combined eleven and makes the cut deservedly. The player has a knack to score the Toffees, scoring 6 goals in 10 games against the Merseysiders. The performance of Southampton will hugely depend on how well Ings plays and whether he is capable of breaching the Everton defence. Unfortunately, Che Adams misses out.
