Everton target Matias Vecino may consider leaving Inter should he be frozen out by Antonio Conte.
Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino was a player to be linked with a move away from Milan throughout the transfer window. Murmurs had started since January 2020 that Premier League teams were keeping an eye on the Uruguayan. Carlo Ancelotti wanted to sign Vecino back in January.
In the summer too, the 29 year old was linked with an exit, with the name of Everton once again getting associated. The Toffees were on the hunt for a holding midfielder and briefly before Allan talks picked up the pace, the name of Vecino was being mentioned.
Now, FC Inter News have reported that the midfielder could rethink his future should Conte and Inter freeze him out of the team. Vecino is recovering from a knee injury and will be available in 3 weeks’ time. Inter Milan are well stacked in midfield with the likes of Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Arturo Vidal, Christian Eriksen and Radja Nainggolan making it extremely difficult for the Uruguay international to make the cut into the starting lineup.
Should he be available, Premier League clubs can become alert and look to lure him. The report mentions Everton’s previous interest as well. This time around, if the midfielder is available, should Everton try signing him?
Is Matis Vecino needed at Goodison?
Quite simply, No. The arrival of Allan and his early success in an Everton shirt completely closes the door for Vecino. Even though the Inter man is capable of playing in a number of midfield positions, he isn’t a necessity for the Toffees. Whatever Vecino offers to a team, Everton already have it via a number of players.
Vecino offers defensive solidity, physicality to win the ball back, start attacks and thread long balls ahead. Allan can carry out most of these duties with an alarming ease. Both players seem like they are cut from the same cloth and there’s no point in having two players with same qualities in the squad.
Matias Vecino may have to look away from Inter but Everton won’t be his destination.
