More twists in an ongoing transfer saga about a player linked to Everton as Poland striker Arkadiusk Milik might be available for a bargain price in January.

Milik has been constantly mentioned alongside a move to Everton and supposedly he was on the club’s radar before the summer transfer window closed.

These links were given further credence as Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti had of course managed him during his stint at Napoli.

The Toffees didn’t though move for him with some reports claiming that Ancelotti didn’t feel he was the right sort of forward for his Toffees team.

In fact Everton didn’t bring in any other forward at all and then let Moise Kean go out on loan leaving them short of striking options.

Milik’s name has popped up again recently and now further reports in the media suggest he might be leaving Napoli in January and could be available at a knock down price.

According to these sources in Italy, Milik’s agent is negotiating with Napoli to try and find a way to get the Polish international a new club , which would then free him to move in January for only a nominal fee.

I thought the Toffees should have moved for a forward once they decided to let Kean go away on loan, leaving them with only a still crocked Cenk Tosun and the untried teenager Ellis Simms to back-up Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

So given that, would a move for Milik make sense in January? The 26-year-old is a player with plenty of ability and experience.

Looking at Whoscored.com, he is a strong finisher, good in the air and holds the ball up well. Those are all qualities that would make him a very useful back-up to Calvert-Lewin.

Everton certainly do really need more forward options as the suspension of Richarlison has underlined. Having someone who can come in, particularly for the young England centre-forward Calvert-Lewin, if he is injured or simply needs a rest, would seem sensible.

And a player like Milik fits the bill – although he isn’t able to fill in for Richarlison. But if he is also not going to cost more than about £5 million, then that seems a very reasonable price to consider.

However, as the Blues didn’t bring him or anyone else in before the last transfer window shut, I’m not sure they will be doing so in January.

In further related news, Ancelotti has also made clear that as far as he’s concerned Kean will be coming back to Goodison Park next season and his loan to PSG isn’t going to become permanent.

Next. Can Everton return to winning ways this weekend?. dark

If that’s the case the manager may well decide to take his chances with his existing forward players for the remainder of this campaign and not dip into the January market.
