Everton continues to monitor their Portuguese midfielder’s injury status as the United game closes in.

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes’ status for the upcoming game against Manchester United remains unknown, as Carlo Ancelotti and his staff continue to monitor the Portuguese player’s fitness levels.

"Andre had a little problem on his knee but it was nothing special, just a knock."

Ancelotti said after the match against Newcastle.

The Portuguese midfielder picked up the small knock during last weekend’s match against Newcastle, where Gomes had to be taken off, eventually being replaced by Bernardo.

Ancelotti confirmed that removing Gomes from the game was a decision that needed to done, rather than a tactical change in that moment of the game.

Gomes was added to a list of players unable to partake in last weekend’s match, with Everton missing James Rodriguez, Seamus Coleman, Richarlison, and Ben Godfrey on Sunday.

The Toffees are not having the best of games at St. James’ Park on Sunday, as Newcastle would raddle off two goals in the second half on an Everton side that could not get anything going beyond Calvert-Lewin’s 91st-minute goal.

Prior to being taken off, Gomes helped concede one of the goals to Newcastle, fouling Callum Wilson in the box, earning Newcastle a penalty in the 56th minute, that would open up the scoring for the Toon.

The Royal Blues have now lost two games in a row, dropping to third, heading into a match against a struggling Manchester United side, that has also lost two games in a row.

They will have an opportunity to take advantage of United while they’re struggling for results as well, but, as long as Everton remains depleted by injuries, it could be another frustrating weekend for the Merseyside club.

As Everton continue to monitor Gomes’ status, it will remain to be seen if he will be able to suit up against Manchester United, and could likely be a game-time decision, as James Rodriguez was the week before.
