AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca wants to reunite with Everton winger Bernard.

The January transfer window is 50 days away but the transfer links have started to emerge already. Everton is further expected to cut short their squad and discard players who have failed to make a lasting impact on the team. One such player who could be headed through the exit door in January is Bernard with AS Roma being one of the most interested parties.

Everton have a lot of options at the left wing but sadly apart from Anthony Gordon, no one comes close to being a like for like a deputy to Richarlison. Bernard did sparkle against Manchester United but the majority of performances in an Everton shirt haven’t been effective.

When the Brazilian arrived on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk, it was seen as a major coup but almost two years after his transfer to Merseyside, no one would term his as a success at Goodison. It appears that the Toffees are open on cashing on him and reinvest the amount in another player who has credentials of a match-winner.

AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is keen to bring Bernard to Rome in the January transfer window, as per Il Tempo (via Sport Witness). The 28 year old remains a target for the Serie A side who have been linked in the past. Previously, certain reports suggested that Roma was looking to offer a deal around €7 million for Bernard but a transfer never materialized.

Fonseca knows Bernard well from the Shakhtar days as the manager-player duo worked together in Ukraine from 2016 to 2018 before Bernard moved to the Premier League. Fonseca’s wish to reunite with his former pupil is evident.

His wish to reunite with the 28 year old winger could actually come true as Everton will be open to selling him. The Brazilian has a market value of £13.5 million and is contracted at Everton till summer 2022.

The Roma hierarchy is also willing to grant Fonseca his wish and make an attempt to sign the 28 year old. The Romans lack firepower at the wings and addition of a winger is must for them in the January transfer window. Bernard has not been able to convince Ancelotti of his abilities resulting in mostly bench appearances.

The Brazilian is one of the highest earners at the club, pocketing £120,000 a week. Offloading him will lighten the load on the wage budget and allow the Royal Blues to look at other options in the market.
