Everton striker Cenk Tosun is not interested in a return to former club Besiktas at the moment.

Everton signed Cenk Tosun from Besiktas in January 2018 for £27 million in a bid to replace Romelu Lukaku who had left for Manchester United in the summer of 2017. Nearly after two and a half years of Tosun, it is not hard to conclude that Tosun hasn’t worked out.

The Turk has scored 10 goals in 53 appearances, not a glowing endorsement for a traditional striker. The poor goalscoring record has had many suggesting that the 29 year old is not suited for football in England.

When Ancelotti’s rebuild began this summer, Cenk Tosun was expected to make way for new signing and better players. Since the former Besiktas man was recovering from an ACL injury, no talks were held between him and the parties interested. However, there were whispers of him being wanted back in the Super Lig.

Now that Tosun has recovered completely and is back on the pitch, a January exit could be on the cards. In fact, Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has even confirmed that they are looking into bringing the striker back to Turkey in January.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

"There is a saying, ‘My dear wants heaven, but my sins do not leave. I also want Besiktas to get better players for success. We want to rejuvenate the team. I want a striker transfer. Cenk Tosun comes to the fore as a name. Cenk Tosun is with a club now, connected, but I would like to try it if there is a chance. (via Liverpool ECHO)"

However, the Toffees do not have another backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin apart from Tosun. The Merseysiders didn’t sign another striker despite being linked to the likes of Arkadiusz Milik and Joshua King in the culminating stages of the transfer window. Unless there’s a striker arrival in January, Tosun’s departure looks highly unlikely.

This has been further confirmed by Tosun’s father saying that there isn’t a situation where his son needs to leave Everton.

"We always know Besiktas’ interest. We know that if we go back to Turkey the possibility of playing in Besiktas. We thank the president for this interest. But right now, Cenk does not have a situation like leaving. (via Asist Analiz)"

Everton may try their luck again with Milik in January as Napoli will make a last gasp attempt to earn some fee by selling him in the winter market rather than letting him go for free in summer 2021 as a stay at Stadio San Paolo is completely ruled out.

Would you like to see Cenk Tosun stay at the club or leave in January?
