James was seemingly shut out by Uruguay as he wasn’t able to register any of his 3 shots on target, it’s also very clear that La Celeste had a gameplan to chop James down whenever he touched the ball, as the Colombian was fouled 5 times in the game which is basically double of his Premier League average of 2.6.

This approach did seem to work for the Uruguyians, as they kept a clean sheet and also smashed 3 past Los Cafeteros without much struggle, it’s hard to go in-depth about James’ statistics but it’s clear he struggled in this game, as the rough and tough approach that Uruguay took was just too much for the maestro.

The problem for Colombia was that they didn’t do anything when they had the ball and they just couldn’t get their shots on target, Colombia had 63% possession and had 11 shots, with only 2 of them being on target, Uruguay were clearly happy to soak up the pressure and then pounce as soon as James touched the ball which, unfortunately for Rodriguez, worked perfectly.
