Reports today claim that Spanish giants Real Madrid want to provoke a January bidding war for alleged Everton transfer target Isco.

For the past few weeks there have been frequent stories that Everton are seriously interested in signing the Spanish international star.

The attacking midfielder has become surplus to requirements as the Spanish champions look to trim their squad and slash the wage bill along with many of their rivals.

The Blues have been strongly linked with making a new year move for him and manager Carlo Ancelotti has been supposedly campaigning behind the scenes to make it happen.

If such a transfer were to happen then Isco would be reunited with his former team mate James Rodriguez and follow his path after he made the switch from the Santiago Bernabeu to Goodison Park in the last transfer window.

Now stories claim that the La Liga club want to start a bidding war for the out-of-favour star and that they are particularly interested in getting Everton’s Premier League rivals Arsenal involved.

According to these reports, Real want to get the price up for their Spanish midfielder and are hoping the Gunners and maybe other Premier League clubs might show enough interest.

To be honest I don’t really see Arsenal being involved in significant bidding battle for the player as they are not the strongest club financially and I would expect Gunners boss Mikel Arteta to be more interested in younger players if he’s going to make any January additions.

This tactic is not an unexpected move from the Spanish club as they are certain to want the best possible price before letting another of their prized assets leave after seeing the Colombian and Welsh forward Gareth Bale both move to England and Tottenham on loan in the summer. They also know English clubs still have cash to splash.

Isco’s signing would represent another conformation of the step up in the calibre of player that the Toffees are able to attract with Ancelotti in the dugout and having him in the same team as Rodriguez would be another real coup for the Blues.

His quality is obvious and adding him to a side that still needs more attacking flair to compliment and support Rodriguez and additional goals from the midfield, would be a significant boost and something this Everton team still lacks.

Next. Allan a doubt for next Everton game. dark

The current crop of players in the middle of the pitch are not able offer enough creativity or goal threat, Rodriguez apart. Isco’s addition might well give the Blues not only that but also a hugely important psychological lift in the second half of the season.
