Everton are eyeing a swoop for Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto.

Everton carried out major surgery in the midfield in the summer transfer window bringing Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and playmaker James Rodriguez to the team. Unsurprisingly, the trio was instantly drafted into the team. However, the Toffees still intend to strengthen the midfield after the failings of Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Neither the Portuguese nor the Iceman has been able to contribute in the attack and it won’t be a surprise if Carlo Ancelotti decides to axe them pout of the lineup by bringing another midfielder in January.

Midfielder links have started to emerge and there is movement seen on the Everton side as the transfer window comes closer. Isco to Everton has largely dominated the news feed but there are other midfielders too who have seen their name get associated with a move to Goodison.

According to Il Tempo (via Sport Witness), Carlo Ancelotti is eyeing a swoop for Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto. The Spaniard once donned the red of Liverpool but has become a mainstay in the Lazio team since 2016. Especially in the past couple of seasons, Alberto has become the creative genius in the team, providing uninterrupted service to Ciro Immobile.

In Lazio’s unsuccessful title charge last season, Alberto scored 7 goals and provided 17 assists in 41 games. However, the story hasn’t been the same this season. The 28 year old has had problems with the Lazio board in recent times.

Then Corona Virus pandemic has affected the club finances massively with major sources of income like the match ticket sales being nil. In such a situation, some clubs have opted to sit down with the players and agree upon a wage cut for smooth functioning of the club. Lazio have already placed a percentage wage cut as the club tries to minimize the losses in the pandemic.

However, their recent decision to buy a charter plane for the team has not been appreciated by Alberto and criticized the club for the spending, causing a fallout with the hierarchy. This has prompted to outside teams to come and test Lazio with Everton and Sevilla said to be in the keeping tabs on the former Liverpool man.

The Toffees are in search of a midfielder who is a master of build up play and their eyes have been fixated on Alberto. However, Alberto continues to get the backing of Lazio manager Simeone Inzaghi and despite the recent feud, a middle ground can be reached.
