Everton have Brentford striker Ivan Toney on their radar.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is absolutely killing it in the Premier League. The 23 year old is the leading goal scorer in the league with 10 goals in 10 games. What is even more noteworthy is that none of these goals have come from spot kicks, eliminating the chance of calling it stat padding.

DCL has proved that he deserves to wear the iconic No.9 jersey which was once donned by Everton legends such as Dixie Dean and Duncan Ferguson. The Englishman has been firing at all cylinders, looking like a ruthless poacher, wanting to pounce on every opportunity he gets on goal. His lethal form makes defenders have freakish nightmares about him and the scarier part is that it seems that he’s just getting started.

Everton have a quality first team with the likes of James Rodriguez, DCL and Richarlison in the attack. However, the pedigree of the squad depth is questionable, especially in the striker’s position. The Toffees sent Moise Kean on loan to PSG leaving Cenk Tosun as the only senior backup to Calvert-Lewin.

The Turk has not exactly lit up the Premier League with his performances in the Royal Blue shirt making it a one-sided bar debate as to why the Toffees paid £27 million for him in 2018. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury, the 29 year old has returned to action but looks unconvincing.

He’s just had 31 minutes of action since return but those 31 minutes have been long and dreadful for the fans. One thing is clear that Tosun has never hit the ground running in England, always struggling to gain momentum and get a good run of games. There have been plenty of whispers of a return to Turkey with Besiktas ready to welcome him with open arms.

Everton are probably looking at other options in the market and have set their sights on Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The 24 year old was signed from Peterborough and has instantly produced eye-catching displays for the Bees. 13 goals in 15 Championship games is an impressive tally and speak volumes of his capabilities.

According to Calciomercato, the 24 year old Brentford striker is on Everton’s radar. This could be Everton’s effort to find a viable backup to Calvert-Lewin. The report doesn’t mention whether the Toffees will launch a bid or wait until summer but this report does testify that Marcel Brands and Carlo Ancelotti are actively working on improving the squad depth.
