Everton must try their luck in bringing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli on loan.

The midfield upgrades have been massive over the past summer transfer window. Everton have gone from an ineffective midfield of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes to the likes of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, the third midfield spot has remained debatable.

Carlo Ancelotti started with Gomes who initially looked to have broken the shackles that were holding him back and looked solid. The Merseyside derby was a low point where he was awful throughout his time on the pitch. His uninspiring display was succeeded by a couple of niggles that forced him to miss games.

In his absence, Ancelotti called Sigurdsson to the starting lineup. The Iceman was even more depressing, lacking creativity and not offering much on the table. This poses a very serious question regarding the third midfield spot.

The Toffees need a skilled third midfielder who can take some creative load off James Rodriguez. While winter transfer window may not be the best time to do serious business, a loan deal as a stop gap solution cannot be ruled out.

Generally, getting the deals over the line in January is a challenge because it’s in the middle of the season, the transfer fee demands are high and players themselves prefer to start fresh. But for estranged players, the winter transfer window is a chance for them to move out of the club and seek regular football elsewhere.

Tottenham Hotspur player Dele Alli also finds himself in a similar boat. He has fallen down the pecking order, featuring for only 333 minutes so far. Even though he’s had regular outings in the Europa League, Premier League football has come as a bare minimum for the Englishman.

Previously, it was reported that the Toffees are eyeing Alli as an option in the January market. Now, a Football Insider report stated that Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, will reject any purchase offers for Alli but will ponder upon a loan move.

The former MK Dons player is being seen as a high value asset and letting him go for a cheap price due to a dip in form will not be smart play. Levy, a shrewd businessman, thinks that Alli has a lot to give to the team but taking note of his current situation, allowing him out on loan would work in favour of all parties.

Everton can seriously consider bringing the 24 year old to Goodison Park on loan. Alli could be a short term fix until summer giving Marcel Brands and Ancelotti enough time to evaluate the player they want in the summer. It’ll be tricky to get Alli considering that Spurs may see Everton as direct rivals but when you have Brands on the negotiations bench, there’s a fair chance that he’ll get it done.
