A player Everton were very interested in signing during the summer transfer window is potentially available again in January after failing to nail down a place in the Chelsea team.
That player is Fikayo Tomori. The young Chelsea and England defender was strongly linked with a move to Everton in the last transfer window but the deal eventually fell through and the club ended up signing Ben Godfrey.
Now reports claim that Tomori might again be available in the January window. So would a loan deal now make sense for the Toffees?
The Blues defensive problems have been chronic all campaign and no matter what combination of players or formations manager Carlo Ancelotti tries, nothing seems to make a real positive difference.

Ancelotti has been using a 3-4-3 formation in the last two games and while it worked for 45 minutes at Fulham before the Toffees fell away in the second half and just held on.
Against Leeds last weekend, the manager decided to alter his players’ positions to take account of the injury to Lucas Digne. As we know that didn’t work out and the Blues lost 1-0.
So it will be interesting to see how Ancelotti’s side lines up tomorrow lunchtime and whether he sticks to this new formation or decides to change again.
Everton did sign another centre-back in the last window for a lot of money, but so far Godfrey hasn’t been able to settle and find a consistent place in the team as yet.
So would bringing in another central defender be the answer? I’m not sure to be honest as simply having yet another body alongside the five existing players that Ancelotti has to choose from.
However, Tomori was on the club’s radar and if he was available on a loan deal until the end of the season and the Blues are still struggling to stem the number of goals being conceded, the the club might well consider it a necessary move.
